Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
In recent years, the number of Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedures has increased significantly according to plastic surgery statistics. Some individuals may naturally have less volume in the buttocks, or may experience sagging due to aging or weight loss, which leads them to seek aesthetic procedures to improve the shape and fullness of the buttocks.
A Brazilian Butt Lift is a buttock enhancement procedure that uses the patient’s own body fat to enlarge and shape the buttocks. During the procedure, your surgeon removes fat from other areas of your body—such as the hips, abdomen, or waistline—using the VASER liposuction technique. The purified fat is then carefully injected into specific areas of the buttocks to create a fuller, more lifted, and well-contoured body profile.
How is the Procedure Performed?
For fat transfer, 3–5 small incisions are typically made around the buttock area. Unlike other buttock enhancement procedures—such as silicone butt implants—a Brazilian Butt Lift provides a more natural appearance and generally carries a lower risk of infection.
Immediately after the procedure, bruising and swelling may occur in the areas where fat was removed. Pain is usually minimal and can be easily managed with prescribed medication.
Recovery Process
After the procedure, your surgeon may ask you to wear a special compression garment to help the areas treated with liposuction heal properly. Patients are generally advised to wear this garment for three to four weeks.
Compression garments help to:
Reduce swelling (edema)
Minimize discomfort
Support skin tightening and healing
During the early recovery period, patients should avoid sitting directly on their buttocks for the time recommended by their doctor. Sleeping on the stomach or side is usually advised.
If sitting is necessary, patients may use a special donut-shaped or inflatable cushion to avoid pressure on the treated area.
After approximately one month, light physical activities such as brisk walking can usually be resumed.
Brazilian Butt Lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia, and patients generally stay one night in the hospital after the procedure.
