What is Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a procedure in which hair follicles are taken from the donor area—typically the back and sides of the head—and transplanted to areas where hair is thinning or balding. Hair transplantation can also be described as a type of tissue transfer procedure.

The hair follicles taken from the donor area, which are genetically resistant to hair loss, are called grafts. Each graft may contain up to four hair strands.

What Methods Are Used in Hair Transplantation?

There are two main techniques used in hair transplantation: FUE and FUT.

The FUT technique was widely used by surgeons for many years and may still be preferred in certain cases because it allows for unshaven hair transplantation. However, today the FUE technique is more commonly preferred because it is more comfortable, safer, and does not require stitches or leave visible scars.

Op. Dr. Ercan Demiray performs hair transplantation procedures using the FUE technique.
