What is Rhinoplasty Surgery?

During social interactions, the nose is usually the first facial feature people notice. The appearance of the nose plays a very important role in body image and how a person is perceived. Rhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping surgery, can be performed from the age of 17 in women and 18 in men. In addition to improving the aesthetic appearance of the nose, this procedure can also correct breathing problems during the same operation.

Today, most of our patients prefer a natural-looking rhinoplasty result. Patients may apply to our clinic for concerns such as hump removal, nasal lifting, or nasal reshaping. At our clinic, patients can preview their potential postoperative results using advanced 3D imaging technology before the surgery.

When a patient decides to undergo rhinoplasty, Dr. Ercan Demiray first evaluates whether the patient has any breathing problems. Then, using the 3D Vectra imaging system, a detailed facial analysis is performed. Taking into account the patient’s expectations and facial structure, the most suitable surgical plan is created.

Rhinoplasty procedures are performed under general anesthesia and typically take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the patient’s condition. Patients are usually discharged on the same day or the following day, depending on their recovery status.

What is the Age Range for Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty surgery can generally be performed from the age of 17 for women and 18 for men, provided that the nasal development has been completed.

During adolescence, certain nasal deformities may negatively affect a young person’s self-confidence and psychological well-being. In such cases, you may bring your child to our clinic for an evaluation to determine whether rhinoplasty is appropriate.

How Long Does the Surgery Take and What Type of Anesthesia is Used?

Rhinoplasty surgeries typically last between 1.5 and 2 hours. However, in revision or more complex procedures, the duration may vary depending on the individual case.

Dr. Ercan Demiray performs most rhinoplasty procedures under general anesthesia to ensure maximum comfort for the patient. In rare cases, the procedure may also be performed with sedation anesthesia.

What is the Recovery Process After Rhinoplasty?

Most patients can return to work and normal social activities within approximately one week after surgery.

After the operation, a splint and medical tapes are placed on the nose. These are usually removed by the doctor after one week. Bruising and swelling that may occur after surgery generally disappear within 10 days.

Although the nose will already look more natural once the splint is removed, it usually takes about one year for the nose to fully settle into its final shape. During this period, swelling gradually decreases and does not affect daily life.

Can Unsuccessful Rhinoplasty Results Be Corrected?

The goal of rhinoplasty is to achieve a natural-looking nose that harmonizes with the patient’s facial features while also improving breathing function.

The surgeon’s experience, aesthetic perspective, and technical skill play a critical role in achieving successful results. Unfortunately, not every surgeon possesses all of these qualities simultaneously.

Patients who have previously undergone rhinoplasty but are dissatisfied with the results may require a revision rhinoplasty. In such cases, once one year has passed and the healing process is complete, a second rhinoplasty procedure can be performed to achieve a more aesthetic and functional result.

Revision rhinoplasty may cause anxiety for patients due to concerns about repeated unsuccessful outcomes. However, in our clinic, patients can preview potential results with 3D imaging technology, helping them make more confident and comfortable decisions.

Can Rhinoplasty Be Combined with Other Cosmetic Procedures?

Rhinoplasty can be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as:

  • Breast Augmentation

  • Breast Reduction

  • Liposuction

  • Gynecomastia Surgery

Additionally, procedures known as profiloplasty, which aim to achieve facial harmony and the golden ratio, can also be performed together with rhinoplasty. These may include procedures involving the chin, forehead, or cheekbones.

What is Profiloplasty?

The nose plays a significant role in the overall harmony of the face. Small adjustments to the chin, forehead, or cheekbones together with rhinoplasty can help achieve a more balanced and harmonious facial appearance.

Even a minor change in the nose can significantly affect facial expression. By combining rhinoplasty with procedures that enhance facial proportions, surgeons aim to achieve the golden ratio and a more balanced facial profile.

Profiloplasty may include procedures such as:

  • Chin implants

  • Chin reduction

  • Cheekbone enhancement

These procedures help create ideal facial angles and improve overall facial harmony.

How Do We Organize Procedures for International or Out-of-Town Patients?

For rhinoplasty surgery, it is ideal to have a face-to-face consultation at our clinic. Using the 3D Vectra imaging system, patients can view their potential postoperative results and discuss the planned procedure with Dr. Ercan Demiray.

For patients traveling from abroad or other cities, an initial evaluation can be performed by sending photographs. Based on this evaluation, an approximate treatment plan and price estimate can be provided.

Patients coming from abroad are usually required to stay in Istanbul for at least one week. During this time, our clinic can assist with hotel reservations and airport or transportation transfers, depending on the patient’s request.
