What are Laser Lipolysis and Laser Liposuction?

Laser liposuction is a fat removal technique used to shape the body by melting accumulated fat in specific areas with the help of laser energy, which is then removed from the body by the surgeon.

In contrast, laser lipolysis refers to the process in which fat cells are broken down using laser energy, and the liquefied fat is gradually metabolized and eliminated by the body naturally.

In many cases, both methods are applied together. Op. Dr. Ercan Demiray first breaks down and melts enlarged fat cells using laser energy and removes a portion of them from the body. The remaining fragmented fat cells are gradually metabolized and expelled through the body’s natural fluid system.

Laser Liposuction or Traditional Liposuction?

The most well-known method for eliminating localized fat deposits is traditional liposuction. However, older liposuction techniques may have some disadvantages, such as:

  • Skin sagging

  • Uneven or irregular skin contours

  • Bruising

With advances in laser technology, these potential disadvantages of traditional liposuction can now be significantly minimized.

Who is Laser Liposuction Suitable For? Is It a Weight Loss Surgery?

Laser fat removal procedures are not weight loss surgeries. Instead, they are body contouring and tightening procedures designed for individuals who generally have a normal body shape but have localized fat deposits in areas such as:

  • Abdomen

  • Hips

  • Buttocks

  • Legs

  • Arms

  • Back

  • Under the chin

How Do Modern Laser Devices Work?

Laser devices work by melting fat tissue while simultaneously tightening the skin in the treated area. This helps prevent the skin sagging that may occur after traditional liposuction.

For example, in cases where skin elasticity has been reduced after pregnancy or significant weight fluctuations, traditional liposuction may not be ideal. However, modern laser-assisted techniques can be safely used because of their skin-tightening effect.

Another advantage of laser liposuction is that the laser can melt fat evenly, reducing the risk of irregular or uneven contours that may occur with conventional liposuction.

In addition, bruising after the procedure is significantly reduced. Laser liposuction can also be effectively applied to patients who have previously undergone traditional liposuction.

Dr. Ercan Demiray uses the SlimLipo laser system in laser liposuction procedures, selecting the most suitable approach based on the patient’s individual characteristics.

Will Fat Reappear in the Same Area After Laser Lipolysis?

With the laser lipolysis method, enlarged fat cells in the treated area are removed. The total number of fat cells in the body is generally established after adolescence.

Localized fat accumulation occurs when existing fat cells expand due to factors such as poor diet and lack of physical activity, creating unwanted body contours in areas such as the abdomen, hips, and buttocks.

During laser liposuction, these enlarged fat cells are broken down and removed. Since fat cells are removed from the treated area, new fat cells will not be produced there.

However, some remaining fat cells that naturally exist in the body will still remain in those areas. If a person adopts an unhealthy lifestyle with poor nutrition and limited physical activity, these remaining fat cells may enlarge again, potentially leading to weight gain in those regions.

What Type of Anesthesia is Used?

These procedures can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s needs and the area being treated.

Because the procedure is minimally painful, patients can usually return to their daily activities quickly.

How Long Does Laser Liposuction Take?

The duration of the procedure depends on the area being treated. For a single treatment area, laser liposuction usually takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

If multiple areas are treated, the duration may increase depending on the size of the area and the amount of fat present.

When Can I Return to Normal Life? How Long Should Patients from Abroad Stay in Istanbul?

After laser liposuction procedures, patients may stay in the hospital for one night if preferred and be discharged the following day. No additional fee is typically required for the overnight stay.

Alternatively, patients may rest in the hospital room for 3–4 hours after the procedure and then leave the hospital on foot.

Most patients can return to their normal daily activities within about 3 days.

Patients traveling from other cities or abroad are generally advised to stay in Istanbul for about 3 days before returning home.

Will I Need to Wear a Compression Garment After Slim Laser Lipo?

Wearing a compression garment after liposuction procedures is important for achieving optimal results.

The medical compression garment provided by our clinic will be placed on the patient by the medical staff before leaving the operating room.

The duration of use will be determined by your doctor based on your body structure, but it is typically recommended to wear it for approximately 2–3 weeks.

Can Laser Lipolysis Be Combined with Other Cosmetic Procedures?

Yes. Laser fat removal procedures can be combined with other cosmetic surgeries depending on the patient’s suitability, including:

  • Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

  • Breast Augmentation

  • Breast Lift

  • Rhinoplasty

  • Eyelid Surgery

  • Brow Lift

What Are the Prices for Laser Liposuction?

The cost of laser liposuction procedures may vary depending on the patient’s individual condition and the body areas to be treated. Therefore, pricing is determined after a personal consultation and medical evaluation.
